YOUR TWO PURPOSES

  • August 29, 2023

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father."  John 14:9 (NKJV)

God created you for two reasons: to be like Him and to be close to Him!

Genesis 1:26 says He created you in His own image, which is a stunning statement. But that begs the question, what is God like?

To get an accurate look at who God is, you need to go to the Word. Jesus said that seeing Him was the same as seeing the Father. So read the Gospels and follow Jesus from street to street. Pay attention to how He treated people, how He spoke and how He carried Himself—and you’ll get a picture of the way you are designed to be.

We become the way we perceive God. If you see Him as an angry guy who puts sickness on you or bankrupts you to get your attention, you'll become judgemental too. That's why it’s crucial to get the truth about God from His Word.

As you get to know God better, you will naturally grow closer to Him. If you’re married, think about your relationship with your spouse. When you first began dating, you spent a lot of time getting to know each other, asking questions and observing each other in different settings. It’s the same in your relationship with God. If you commit to spending time in the Word, talking to Him and inviting Him into your everyday world, your relationship will grow!

God can’t wait for you to spend purposeful time with Him! He’s always with you and as you get to know Him, you will find yourself looking more and more like Jesus every day.
