THE LOVE, NOT ANGER OF GOD

  • April 12, 2023

Whoever accepts and trusts the Son gets in on everything, life complete and forever! John 3:36 (MSG)

Many people assume God is angry with them when they do wrong and loves them only when they do right. They read about how God poured out punishment on people who disobeyed Him in the Old Testament, and they assume He feels that way about them today. But in 2 Corinthians 13:14, Paul prayed that we would know the love of God, not the anger of God.

You see, before you made Jesus the Lord of your life, you were separated from God. When Adam disobeyed God, he acted on behalf of mankind. So by default we all start out in the same category as Adam. And when it comes to all of the people in that camp who yet don’t know Jesus, John 3:36 (CEV) is clear that “God will be angry with them forever.”

But when you decide to follow Jesus, you become part of His family. John 3:36 also says that “whoever accepts and trust the Son gets in on everything, life complete and forever!” In other words, God has no anger for you. You will still suffer earthly consequences of your behaviour, but God isn’t mad at you for it.

And when it comes to His love, God loves everyone—those who know Jesus and those who don’t (John 3:16). His love is unconditional; it’s not contingent on good behaviour.

As long as you have prayed the simple prayer inviting Jesus into your life, you don’t have to fear God’s anger. The forgiveness that Jesus has earned for you is bigger than anything you could ever accomplish. Trust in His love and develop a deep, rewarding relationship with your Father God.
