THE COST OF FEAR

  • February 6, 2023

“Not one of you will enter the land and make your home there, the firmly and solemnly promised land, except for Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.” Numbers 14:30 (MSG)

If you don’t learn how to deal with fear, it can cost you your destiny.

Numbers chapter 13 provides an excellent example of this. Moses sent twelve spies to explore the land God had promised them. The spies all returned to share stories of rich, fertile land flowing with milk and honey.

However, ten of the spies went on to spread frightening accounts of fierce giants and huge, well-fortified cities in the land. Their alarming reports caused fear to explode throughout the entire Israelite camp, and the people began to rebel against Moses and criticize God.

Only two spies—Caleb and Joshua—held to the belief that if God had promised them the land, it was theirs to take. But nobody listened because they were too caught up in a spirit of fear. As a result, God didn’t let any Israelite over the age of twenty, including the ten faithless spies, to enter the land—only Caleb and Joshua.

Listening to the fear-mongering of ten men caused over a million Israelites to wander and die over the next forty years and miss their destiny. Why? Because they embraced fear instead of faith, and it cost them a great future. Now, they didn’t have Jesus, but we do!

If God has promised you something, He is faithful to keep that promise. Regardless of who is pushing scary reports, whether it’s the media, the government, doctors, friends or family, don’t let fear derail you.

God wants you to operate from a position of faith because it will help you push forward with courage to fulfill your destiny.
