STAY PASSIONATE

  • May 10, 2023

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4 (NKJV)

Many serve God only when they need something from Him. There’s nothing wrong with going to God for help. But will you continue to build your relationship with Him even when things are going well, and it seems like you don’t need His help?

That’s when you need to work the most to keep your heart right. Never allow your passion for God to wane or, as Revelation 2:4 puts it, lose your first love.

This is a common problem with second generation Christians. First generation Christians often come to Jesus out of real hurt. They’ve experienced the stark contrast of life without Him as compared to the incredible life they now have with Him.

But if you were born into a great Christian home where you learned to love Jesus, you’ve never known anything but life with Him. You would have grown up knowing God loves you and learning how special and wonderful you are. The problem is, you might be tempted to play around with sin a bit because you know Jesus will forgive you.

While it’s true that Jesus will forgive you, life won’t always be so forgiving. A sowing and reaping take place that has nothing to do with God; it’s just a law on the planet that you don’t want to mess with.

If you don’t intentionally build your relationship with God, your passion for Him will go up and down. If you’re not careful, you’ll allow things to creep into your life that can cause harm. But you can stay pure; you can stay focused on Jesus. No matter what your story is, choose to stay red hot for God and keep growing closer to Him.
