Have you ever hit a wall of emotional or mental exhaustion and wondered how you got there?
What we call exhaustion, the Bible calls weariness. It’s more than physical tiredness—it’s internal exhaustion that can cause people to drag through life or give up altogether.
People can become weary after completing a massive task requiring huge effort. After finishing something they’ve worked on long and hard, their drive and vision may fade. They tend to release negative thoughts or words that they hadn’t allowed until then, and that opens the door for weariness to enter. That’s why whenever one of our teams wraps up a major project, I think it’s wise for them to take a break afterwards if possible and recharge.
Obstacles are another thing that can wear us down—especially ones that seem like they’ll never go away. It could be something blocking your career or hindering growth in your marriage. Ongoing health issues or a negative diagnosis can also quickly exhaust us mentally and emotionally.
But nothing stays the same forever, so don’t let any problem—regardless of what it is—wear you down by making you believe that it’s unchangeable or permanent.
Whenever I sense weariness pressing in on me, I acknowledge it, but I don’t let it lead me. Emotions rise up from what you focus on, so centre your attention on God instead.
Spend time in His presence, praying and talking with Him. Refresh your mind in His Word and let Holy Spirit revive your spirit by leading you with His joy, energy and peace instead.
