IS YOUR VISION SINGULAR?

  • January 2, 2023

“If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. Keep your eyes open, your lamp burning, so you don’t get musty and murky. Keep your life as well-lighted as your best-lighted room.” Luke 11:34–36 (MSG)

Nothing kills vision faster than division—in other words, having two visions. You can have several visions within one, but they need to fit into the same overall picture. For example, if you picture your family being close and happy but you also picture yourself suffering from sickness and disease, you have a problem. You cannot have a dark, hopeless vision and a positive, faith-infused vision at the same time.

Division happens when a vision adds nothing or takes away from the overall vision. On the other hand, focusing on one singular vision brings strength and power.

Luke 11:33–36 tells us not to hide our light from the world. In these verses, we could replace the word “light” for the word “vision.” After all, you only have vision when there is light.

With that in mind, these verses would read like this: “No one ignites a vision, then hides it. It’s put out in front so everyone can see where they are going. If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up with a positive vision. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body becomes a musty cellar. Keep your vision burning so you don’t get musty and murky. Keep your life as full of vision as your best-lighted room is full of light.”

Do the pictures you hold for your family, relationships, career, finances and health tie into the overall vision God has for your life?
