HOW DO DEVOTIONS HELP ME?

  • January 12, 2023

Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Proverbs 1:2 (NLT)

Many people don’t realize how much of an impact spending a little time each day in God’s Word has on their lives. As a result, they miss out on some incredible benefits.

For example, as you spend time in the Word, it begins to cultivate a spirit of wisdom in your heart. Proverbs chapter one teaches that studying God’s Word brings you insight, discipline and understanding. You can develop a discerning heart that will look at a situation and know what to do. Where does that perceptiveness come from? It comes from a heart that meditates on the Word of God.

Proverbs 1:20–23 says that wisdom cries aloud in the streets to whoever will listen. A wise man listens to God’s Word and gets it down into his heart where it can guide him. But what about someone who decides not to bother? Proverbs 1:26 says when that person gets themselves into a bad situation, wisdom will laugh at them.

Let’s say someone gave you wise advice to avoid getting into business with a particular individual. But the money was alluring, and they made a lot of good-sounding promises. Ten years later, you’re still trying to get your money back and untangle yourself from the bad partnership.

Wisdom would have helped you sidestep the problem altogether by saying no to the individual at the onset. But because you didn’t listen, it’ll take time to work yourself out of this situation of pain and loss.

Wisdom is vital. Since there is never a time we don’t need it, open the door to God’s wisdom by spending time in His Word daily.
